Kirby Davis, Freeman Webb COO, Slated to Retire 2023
Aug. 31, 2022, 1:22 a.m. (PDT)
It is with tremendous gratitude and appreciation that I announce Kirby Davis's intent to retire in June 2023. Kirby's leaving marks the end of an era for Freeman Webb. Any personal statements I can make would vastly underrepresent Kirby's impact on our Company since First Management and Freeman Webb merged in 2014. In the years since, we have built a friendship, a partnership, and a shared appreciation of each team member.
Kirby's path to Property Management began in the early 1980s. He received his law degree from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he graduated Order of the Coif. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable L. Clure Morton, United State District Judge, from 1983 to 1985. After completing his clerkship, Kirby worked in New York as an attorney in the offices of William S. Friedman, who then was Vice Chairman of Southmark Corporation. Kirby is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and several federal circuits. Kirby returned to Nashville in 1986 to work for Mid-South Financial before joining First Management in 1989 as Executive Vice President.
Once in property management, he became an unwavering supporter of the GNAA. Since becoming involved with the association decades ago, he has served in all officer positions, including the president. He continues to offer his leadership and guidance—whether on the stats committee, helping negotiate and advise on the GNAA office lease, to being instrumental in bringing the NAA state lease to fruition in Tennessee, along with numerous other contributions.
Several years ago, he acknowledged the need to provide housing for the disadvantaged and those at risk in our community. His servant's heart led him to serve on the metropolitan housing commission and join hands with the 100,000 Homes Campaign. He led the way by agreeing to give 1% of housing units in his company's portfolio to the program to house the homeless and convincing other operators in the area to come on board.
The city of Nashville is near and dear to his heart, prompting him to serve on the board of the Nashville Downtown Partnership, which has twice named him Volunteer of the Year. Kirby's success is tied to empowering and supporting those around him to live their most optimal life.
His faith and devoted love of family drives much of what he does. He throws a wide net with his view of family, which extends beyond his own family to the Freeman Webb Family, the GNAA family, the West End Methodist Church family, and his fellow Nashvillians. He is husband to Ann, father to Kate and Laura, grandfather to 2, father-in-law to Sully, uncle and great uncle to 16, brother-in-law to four, wonderful big brother to Kim, Andy, and Patti Ruccio, son of Bill and Barbara Davis.
For those of you who have had the honor of working with Kirby over his many years of service, you have been blessed to know him. For those who have not, you have likely been influenced by his many contributions to our company. Together we have weathered challenging business environments, market turbulence, and a global pandemic and come out stronger than before. A direct reflection of Kirby's leadership, vision, and dedication to each of you.
Congratulations, Kirby, on your retirement. We wish you long, restful beach days and many early morning hikes through your beloved mountains. We thank you for your mentorship, advocacy, and dedication to excellence.
Bill
